Ok , I have winTV-HVR 950Q for my TV tuner.
I installed it an am using WinTV 7 for my software to record / playback TV shows. It has a tuner for ATSC , NTSC , QAM digital cable TV , analog TV.

It uses the a usb port has a coaxial connector for the antenna/cable tv wire. But also on the side of the TV tuner is a place to plug Y R W composite RCA video.

So I thought that I can run the Y R W to my HDDVD and watch my DVD on my computer. If this is possible I cann't find the station it has to be on to take the image from the DVD player. Would be nice to watch a movie thru the dvd player and recorded it for later watching.

Also I have noticed that the TV tuner card doesn't get some of the channels that the setop box gets. So I tried plug the TV tuner into the setop box but I cann't get anything.

I am curious to know if I can get the comcast channels to display thru my tuner. If the setop box is just tuneing into a frequency that the tuner doesn't have or if it is just decrypting an encrypted channel. It would still have to send this channel to the TV such that the TV can tune into it so maybe it is mapping it to a channel in the 2 to 62 range or something? Either way It seems you should beable to watch them thru the TV tuner.

If not and you cann't watch comcast channels or record moves from DVD then this sucks. Because you could only ever get the free channels that you didn't have to payfor (pay a cable provider for) in the first place you couldn't watch the comcast ones or paypreview or on demand ,...etc

WTF

I also have on near the RCA coposite plugs a plug for S-video.
Seems to me theur should be a way to record/ have the image display from your DVD player? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Second "page", "External audio/video sources". Found via google.

For the rest, don't know (also too sleepy right now).

Ya, I read that but I don't think the RCA/s-video can connect to a DVD player. It only say's stuff about connecting it to a setup box/satilite. I have tried to connect it to my HD dvd player but I don't know how to get it to display thru the winTV 7 software ???

As for plugging it into the setbox I haven't figured out how to get that to work either.

Maybe by doing this I can reach all of the comcast channels. But I still don't know of away to beable to watch stuff from a DVD player.
I guess I could use nero to watch a dvd thru the computers dvd player and record it to an iso. But it would be nice to have the ability to do it thru the TV tuner card.

I also noticed when recording TV with the TV tuner card it records it to a .ts file format. Now their are programs to convert .ts to a more compatible format like mpg ...etc and from their to iso to beable to burn on DVD.

What I am curious about is what file format does a TIVO/DVR hold their shows as? Is it a .ts file or some unique file format that no program can convert....etc
Because I have seen online an open TIVO basically just unclip the harddrive from the ribbon connectors and throw it into your computer connecting it to the ribbon connectors should allow you to beable to copy whatever file format it contains unless they have some bitlocking security shit on their.

Either way if their is nothing different about a tivo harddrive as opposed to a computers harddrive then you should beable to take your larger 1 triebyte harddrive and substitute it for the tivo harddrive. To give it more space for shows ...etc

dauld
For DVR you can buy more external usb harddrives for the DVR.
They are called DVR expanders these plug into the usb port in back of the DVR so the usb is not just for firmware/software updates.
It is also to extend more space for the DVR. With a usb hub you could have alot plugged in at once.

Their is probably something similar for the TVIO.
It was initially because people where running out of space recording HD takes up to 5 gigs and hour as opposed to 1 gig for regular definition ,...etc <--this may not be completely accurate gig's but you get the point.

Those are all my thought right now.
Hopefully they are readable in a hurry got to go.
