You have done an astounding amount of research, I'm impressed. Those are the top 3 coolers on the market.
Here's where I ask YOU a question: do you mind lapping or modding your cooler? I ask because Thermalright's HSFs are notoriously concave right out of the factory. Thus, the TRUE and the IFX-14 will both need lapping. Get 600, 800, 1200, 1500, and 2000-grit sandpaper for a perfect finish. The TRUE also needs a pressure mod done to it, sometimes called a washer mod. Because of the extra work required to make the TRUE competitive, you might want to toss it out.
For right out of the box performance, the Megatron wins...if you do not lap/mod the TRUE, its performance can be beaten by even mediocre sinks like the S1283. If you do not mind lapping, the IFX-14 wins hands-down though.
I recommend 38mm's for fans in push-pull, do you have any in mind? |

I don't mind lapping (found out about that too w/the research), thanks for the tip on the sand paper, I'll do that.
I'll take your recommendation and go with the IFX.
That was my second question, the fans. I'd read a review on scythe, and delta fans being great, and i was planning on going with a push/pull setup. I was even considering going with a 3rd fan in the middle, but I don't know if it would be worth it.
What's your advice on the fan? |

3 fans is unnecessary. Some people consider push-pull unnecessary because at best you shave 1-2C off from just having a single good fan...but hell, why are you spending that much on a cooler if you don't want amazing performance? :P
As a rule of thumb, stay away from Scythe fans. They are only recommended by people who don't know what they're talking about, lol...they might have impressive numbers, but they use a sleeve bearing. This makes them degrade very quickly, and they can also develop a "click" which is more than just a little annoying. You need some high-quality ball-bearing fans.
Are you looking for silent cooling, or noise be damned you want good performance? |

I'll keep scythe out of my computer then, thanks again.
I'm looking for noise-be-damned performance :) |

| Then this is the fan for you. It moves so much air it can levitate if you lay it down on a flat, hard surface. Enjoy! Also, what lap method are you doing? I don't want you to screw something up just reading one guide that might be a little off. |

Actually I hadn't looked into a lapping method yet, although obviously I was planning on looking into it before i did it. |

Yeah, heh...I just had a buddy ship me a free one and it arrived today, I can't wait to mess around with it. Also I just remembered that my OC'ing guide I wrote in the Newbies section doesn't cover i7's so I guess I'll have to update it...if you need any help let me know.
This guy explains CPU lapping the best, follow what he does to the letter. The technique is the same for the HSF, although it's much more awkward considering the thing weighs a ton and is weird to handle like that. Just take your time and things will go well. |

| No problem--this sort of thing is what I really enjoy doing. If you need help with the rig further down the line let me know. I assume you picked out parts for it already? You will want to buy the 920 ASAP as Intel announced a new batch and at this point it will be a worse OC'er, not a better one...the D0's are the cream of the crop. You can wait on the rest of the shit, but buy the CPU if you've got the dough. |

@ dsmops: Phase change is ridiculously expensive and takes up a shit-ton of room, not to mention is really awkward for powering. WC'ing is fun, as you get to do it yourself, and it's nearly as good for much less money.
@ Taco-buy the CPU as soon as you get the cash is my recommendation. Also--I tested out the Delta 252CFM fan, and yes, it CAN levitate. It will also destroy anything that touches its blades, blow around anything that isn't nailed down, and it makes a SHIT ton of noise. Like, I'm a guy who thought I didn't care about noise: that fan is louder than all of my rigs put together, without exaggeration. It is LOUD. |

| When you say loud, are we talking vacuum cleaner loud or 4870 fan @ 100% loud? |

| lol, you think I'm kidding. When I was on air, every single one of my GPU's (3) was at 100% and I didn't care...like I said, I didn't think I would ever care about noise. Then I heard this fan. Again, it's louder than my 4 systems put together. |

Well damn, maybe I should pick another if it's THAT LOUD. I didn't think that I cared about noise either. I think something equivalent to the 4870 fan at 100% would be fine. I'm not sure what the decibal rating on that is |
