| I have been surfing for days and I can not find ANYTHING on telnet cracking/hacking. Is this because it can't be done? I can get a connection to the machine that I want to enter through telnet, but I don't know the user name or password. I have tons of time and a public connection to work from, but for the life of me I don't know where to start. I have only found tutorials on hot to crack game code and I have no interest in that. Anyone got a clue? Good website with plenty of articles? Or is it unable to be done? |

I'm not one to ask, but to pass on what I already know. |

You should probably read some basic hacking texts before you attempt to hack your first box. Note that I did not say "telnet hacking texts," I can read, I realize that you can't find these, they are not what I am suggesting you find.
Things like these, however, are: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html
Learn about the art. Realize that directly brute forcing username and password combinations on port 23 of a system will be detected quickly and you will be dealt with swiftly.
Learn what I mean by "port 23" while you're at it... understand what ports are... understand how you can gain access to various systems through various services running on various ports. Learn, learn, then learn some more...
After all that, I'll be really surprised if you still need to ask the original question. More likely, you'll have come up with something far more profound and enlightening to present upon us.

if thats a box that you REALLY wanna get into, i also might suggest using social engineering. if you dont know what i mean, do some searches on it in google.
I know nothing. I know nothing. |

Yeah, I've visted this topic before when I've been board.
I've also been to 666, and various permutations of 69. I started 66666, btw. |

| It just figures that the 1337 thread would be taken by the typical "help me hax plox" in the Newbies section. |
